The vicious creatures and terrifying monsters that roam the forests and caves of Tamriel ensure that anyElder Scrollsplayer is going to always be in constant danger. They can appear at any moment and cause serious damage if players aren’t careful, not to mention that some creatures are downright impossible to fight at lower levels.

While not every animal can be a bloodthirsty menace, some of the creature designs are downright strange, but these weird monsters no doubt have a uniqueness factor. Encounters with these strange oddities can be more eccentric than dangerous, but that’s not to say some of them don’t still pose a serious threat.
8Alit
The alit is a strange critter that appears inMorrowindandThe Elder Scrolls Online. This dinosaur-like monsterchases after players when encountered, although the short and stubby creature doesn’t pose too much danger. They are known to be hunted for their hides and their hearts are considered an Argonian delicacy. Running into one of these beasts is usually more of a nuisance than anything, but they still look remarkably strange when they run.
7Lurker
The daedra ofThe Elder Scrollshave always had pretty cool designs, pulling from a wide range of looks across the games. The lurker isone of the stranger daedra to exist in the series, only appearing in theDragonbornDLC.They may resembleThe Creature from the Black Lagoon, but they are not to be messed with.

They have poisonous attacks as well as long-range and short-range attacks that can be incredibly hazardous for any unprepared adventurer. Regardless of their dangers, they still look like giant fish people.
6Land Dreugh
The land dreugh is nasty crab monster that is not only hulking in size but packs a serious punch. They have appeared in several games throughout the franchise’s history and are thought to have once been an intelligent race of beings that devolved due to conflicts with the Dunmer. Whatever their origin, these creepy crawlerscongregate in caves and alongside coastsand aimlessly chase after anybody that dares pass them by.
5Ash Ghoul
This is perhaps the most shocking (and disturbing) creature design inMorrowind. The ash ghoul is a grotesque ash zombie with an unsettling worm tentacle protruding from its face. Found in the caves andthe Red Mountain regions, these demonic creatures can be quite lethal thanks to their ability to give players the disease Ash Woe. They can be hard to distinguish from other ash zombies in the dark caves and ash-strewn wastes of the Red Mountain, but they still pose a serious threat.
4Arvak
Arvak is one of the more unique creatures inThe Elder Scrollsuniverse, appearing in the theSkyrimDawnguardDLC as a mount obtained through a quest. The player has to find the horse’s skull in order tosummon the undead creature. The horse looks like a skeletal demon with purple flames. It’s certainly a bit of an over-the-top look, even for anElder Scrollsgame.
3Gnarl
Giant walking trees are not inherently bizarre for the fantasy genre, having appeared in stories since the genre’s genesis. Gnarls are the tree people ofOblivion, appearing in theShivering IslesDLC.

They come in several variants with different designs, but all of them have an eeriness to their look. They are notable for their strong resistance to magic and aggressiveness in combat. Somehow, they fit in with thestrange surreal landscape of the Shivering Isles.
2Silt Strider
The silt strider has appeared in severalElder Scrollsgames, but they are most well known as a popular form oftransportation inMorrowind. These alien beings may be huge and hulking, but they are actually docile and tamed, acting more like a bus than a wild creature. They look like some sort of miniscule bug that was grown to giant size and used as a caravan. Their bizarre presence inMorrowindis in lieu of a fast travel option.
1Fabricant
Fabricants are mechanical creations that can either be enemies or mounts depending on the variant. They first appear in theTribunalDLC forMorrowindas robotic dinosaurs, but they subsequently have taken on many different shapes and forms, ranging from insects to simple automaton weapons. They stand out inTheElder Scrollsuniverse for being artificial and robotic in a world filled with natural magic and creatures. Fabricants have a steampunk sort of look to them, perhaps suggesting technology in the world of Tamriel is more advanced than one might think.
