Summary
AMD may finally be releasing the drivers for its RDNA 3-based Radeon 700M iGPUs after months of delays. Even though the company has not shared a release schedule, mini-PC manufacturer Beelink has shared that AMD will push the drivers out by the end of this month. The Radeon 700M iGPUs are part of the AMD Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” APUs lineup which is present in a wide range of mobile hardware such as handheld gaming devices, mini-PCs, and laptops.
The first Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” APUs were unveiled in January this year at Computex. They bring an efficient CPU and an integrated GPU or iGPU based on AMD’s latest RDNA 3 graphics. Because of the size and efficiency of these chips, they have been in demand to serve devices like laptops, mini-PCs, as well as handheld gaming devices, many of which have been popping up recently. However, the issue with these APUs is that there is no graphics driver support even though devices have been on sale for a month.

While AMD remains silent on this, mini-PC manufacturer Beelink hasshared an updateon the Chinese microblogging platform, Weibo. It stated that AMD will release the drivers by the end of this month - meaning this week. It explained that the semiconductor maker had planned to release the driver on July 20 but because of software compatibility problems, it had to be delayed again. It should be noted that there is no official release date for the iGPU driver yet.
Beelink recently launched its GTR7 and GTR7 Pro mini-PCs that are powered by a Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 7040 series CPU and an RDNA 3-based Radeon 780M GPU. Because of the lack of driver support, the company has extended its return period till July 31 in case users have issues with the graphical performance.
The Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” APUs featureZen 4-based CPUs and RDNA 3-based iGPUs. They come with LPDDR5x and PCIe 5 support. The lineup includes Ryzen 5 PRO 7540U, 7640U, 7640HS, Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U, 7840HS, and the Ryzen 9 PRO 7940HS. The Ryzen 5 series comes in a 6-core 12 threat configuration with a TDP of 15W-28W while the Ryzen 7 and 9 series have an 8-core 16 threat configuration with 35W-54W TDP.
In terms of CPU performance in synthetic benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 7840HS performs at par with the Intel Core i7-13700H. As for GPU performance, the Radeon 780M RDNA 3 iGPU can deliver FPS numbers close to the desktop GTX 1060 which means with the right settings, players can hit60 FPS in AAA titles. On top of that, thanks to FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) and RSR (Radeon Super Resolution) support, the performance can be further boosted.
Hopefully, there will be no more delays in the driver launch and those with the AMD Phoenix APUs will be able to get the most out of their latest hardware.
