Assassin’s Creed Nexus, the first major VR title in the franchise, sees players step into the shoes of Ezio, Connor, and Kassandra for a brand-new story. It seems that these characters, at some point after the main games, encounter an Isu artifact that ties them together somehow. Of course, in trueAssassin’s Creedfashion, this story takes place across centuries.
It remains to be seen if these are the only three characters playable inAssassin’s Creed Nexusand just how involved the story is versus a focus on VR gameplay. There’s certainly a case to be made for more characters to be available at launch or thereafter, but at the very least,AC Nexusis expanding each character’s story. Because ofKassandra’s immortality, her story could theoretically take place almost anywhere, but it is surprisingly close to home for her. And beyond that, it carries some heavy implications for her overarching story.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus is Roughly 18 Years After AC Odyssey
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s base game, obviously not including the modern-day segment, comes to an end around 422 BC. TheCrossover Stories betweenAC OdysseyandAC Valhallasee Kassandra’s decision to set out for Egypt, for a still unknown amount of time, as well as to explore the world at large. By the time fans seeKassandra inAssassin’s Creed Valhalla, she is wielding a Hidden Blade. The huge gap in time means fans couldn’t really fathom a guess as to when she received it, but it turns out, it’s sooner than fans may have originally thought. It’s possible Kassandra got it in Egypt and returned to Greece, but it happens within 18 years ofAssassin’s Creed Odysseyno matter what.
AC Nexus' storyline for Kassandratakes place during the Thirty Tyrants era, which begins in 404 BC and lasts for about eight months. Sparta defeats Athens in the Peloponnesian War and installs a government of Thirty individuals over the populace, the most noteworthy being Critias (a former student of Socrates) and Theramenes. The Thirty became a reign of Terror, hence their name, that saw mass killings, confiscation of property, the exile of democratic supporters, and more. The Thirty Tyrants would kill anyone who opposed them, and it is believed that Socrates' thin association with them led to his death.
The exact story remains to be seen, but the Thirty Tyrants are overthrown by Thasybulus' rebel forces. It is likely that Kassandra is aligned with them and potentially finds herself working with the Hidden Ones. It’s clear in the Crossover that Kassandra does not openly work with the Hidden Ones or Assassins at any given point, but she is and has been a strong ally to their cause. Hopefully, the game explains it, as she is confirmed to wield aHidden Bladein the game. That one small detail opens a big can of worms for her centuries-long character development. If Ubisoft leaves it to mystery, it narrows down the time frame but would just be a teaser for fans. An explanation is deserved at this point, and between that, her history, and her apparent connection to Ezio and Connor, it’s clear fans shouldn’t just treatAC Nexusas a spin-off.
