The one reason tomake this choice is for the sheer evil of it. After attacking Shaw, the entire colony will turn hostile (aside from Glut, of course). This decision effectively leads to the end of the Myconid civilization in this region.

There are a few rewards for making this decision, such as theRing Of Fireand theFeatherlight Boots, but nothing unique. Even these items can be bought from vendors or looted in other locations. Whenentering the Underdark, this is the least lucrative outcome, but it may fill an evil character’s heart with joy.

Some might argue that siding with Spaw yields more loot due to the secret area he reveals, but a character with Misty Step or a Potion of Invisibility will be able to get there. So, this ultimately becomes more about role-playing and questing than loot.

Those who wish tolevel up fastwill want to side with Spaw as he continues to fight against the Duergar. He, Omeluum, Thulla, and the merchant are all handy to have around. Plus, players will get to feel they’re helping the Myconids survive instead of destroying them.
