In what will be the final update for the game,Battlefield 5has just received its final major content patch, providing new maps, weapons, vehicles, and gameplay adjustments for the online shooter. Electronic Arts had previously stated that DICE, the game’s developer, will be moving on to other projects, though the company hasn’t directly revealed what those projects are, thoughBattlefield 6has been confirmed for next-gen.
Since it’s release in late 2018,Battlefield 5has seen its share of content updates keeping EA’s promise of free DLC for the game.Battlefield 5has no loot boxesor other paid DLC content. Instead,Battlefield 5has seen updates almost monthly since its release, ranging from bug fixes to major additional multiplayer content.

Details ofBattlefield 5’s final summer update were announcedon the games' official website. Once downloaded players will be provided two new multiplayer maps, nine new weapons, six new vehicles, five gadgets, and three new grenade types. The first of the new maps is an infantry-only map set in Libya and can be played in Conquest, Squad Conquest, Breakthrough, and, of course, Team Deathmatch. The second map is a redesign of the map Provence, increasing the map size to include more open space and adding tanks to the mix.
As for the added weapons and gadgets, players who download the update within the next few weeks will receive them for free and can find them accessible in their armory as login rewards. Though no official date is set, the free access is limited until some time later in June, after which the weapons and gadgets will have to be earned through Company Coin within the game.
Battlefield 5’srelease came amid concern within EA’s handling of paid content. The game announcement was hot on the heels ofStar Wars:Battlefront 2’scontroversial handling of loot boxesand earned unlocks. Met with fan outrage,Battlefront 2had a long road of content updates and changes to win back fans.
The question of lootboxes being hambling gambling was a hot topic at the time, and stillremains a concern for mobile gamesand even major releases such as Netherealm’sMortal Kombat 11, which also recently saw major content update, and EA’s ownNeed for Speed: Payback
Despite these concerns,Battlefield 5has seen continual free support since it’s release, and though fans of the game are no doubt disappointed knowing this is its final major update, it’s exciting to know that EA Dice will be working on something new, especially with new consoles on the horizon.
