Platinum Games' upcoming titleBayonetta 3, the highly anticipated sequel to one of the developers' most successful series, has seen little news in the past few months. The limited information coming out of both Platinum Games and Nintendo about the title has even led toBayonettatrending on Twitter, as fans prepare for every new announcement to go without more news instead of revealing more.
However, in a new interview where GameXplain sat down withBayonettaSeries Creator Hideki Kamiya and Producer Atsushi Inaba, fans have at least gotten some encouragement about the development ofBayonetta 3. While the interview mostly focused on Platinum Games' other projects, such asWonderful 101and the possibility of aStar Fox ZeroSwitch port, Kamiya did comment on the development of the next game in theBayonettaseries.

According to Kamiya, development is “going fine”, which is a similar sentiment shared previously when pressed on the topic, claiming thatBayonetta 3is still in developmentand that it has been running smoothly. Little more was said on the upcoming title, however, bothBayonettaandWonderful 101were addressed with Platinum Games' future intentions of self-publishing and what that means for games being developed in partnership with Nintendo. With so few words to go on, Kamiya’s comments make it difficult to determine exactly where in development the game is, or how far it is from release.
Additionally, when commenting on the note of current development ongoing within the studio, Inaba went into detail about how the current situation with COVID-19 has effected development, forcing the staff to work from home. However, with development being so hushed and Kamiya being intentionally vague and quiet about the progress ofBayonetta 3, some fans may be fearing a repeat of theScaleboundcancellation. Public fears aside, if the developers are reporting that development is running smoothly or “It’s going fine,” then that’s the situation as it has been presented and fans can rest assured that there are no plans to cancel the upcoming project.
Being reassured thatBayonetta3is being developedshould keep fan anticipation tempered, and hopefully settle any doubts, but players looking for where the series is going will likely still want to see more. As of yet, Platinum Games has still only released a single teaser for the upcoming title, with nothing in the way of gameplay having been shown. Of course, while this has fans worried, the more likely explanation for the lack of information is that the developer is still attempting to temper fan expectations, so as not to amp up too much excitement for a project that might not be a top priority at the moment.
