RELATED:Modern Warfare 2 Players Being Banned From Early Access CampaignThis story builds upon the plot and characters seen in the previousModern Warfare title (2019)meaning there are a few returning protagonists alongside some new faces that fans may recognize from the originalModern Warfareseries, some of which get a lot more screen time than others, but it’s nice to see them integrated with unique ways in this new story. Here are our picks for the best characters in Modern Warfare II’s campaign…

Modern Warfare II General Shepard Best Character

6General Shepard

General Shepard is an addition to the roster of characters fromModern Warfare2019. Although we know this name from theoriginal MW series, he does play a slightly different role than what the player may initially expect from this tyrant. For example, he isn’t the one who kills Ghost (as we know of yet) and he’s trying to cover up a scandal to protect himself.

Shepard is voiced by the iconic Glenn Moreshower who does an incredible job of conveying the character’s harsh military authority whilst letting onto a darker side of his personality. He is one of the main antagonists, as expected, but his motives seem justified for the position he’s put himself in rather than just being a bad guy.

Modern Warfare II Kate Laswell Best Character

5Kate Laswell

Kate Laswell acted as a story narrator and moral compass forModern Warfare2019. In MW2 she seems to be amuch more involved characterwith her “back in the field” alongside our protagonist in more than one mission.

This really adds to Kate’s past, as she was clearly a lethal soldier, and helps us to empathize with Captain Price’s respect for Laswell as she isn’t just an intelligent strategist. This change feels like an awesome step forward for this version ofModern Warfareas we see delegators are more capable than we may have expected.

Modern Warfare II Simon Ghost Riley Best Character

4Simon “Ghost” Riley

Ghost’s character was largely built upon withpost-launch content in WarzoneandModern Warfare, and this campaign only adds to his ruthlessness. During the campaign, Ghost and Soap spend a lot of time together treating Simon Riley as a somewhat mentor for Soap’s initiation into the 141 crew.

Throughout the missions, Ghost shows off his experience and deadly nature giving him a lot of credibility and respect. Although we never see his face, he does manage to show a lot of emotion through his eyes (or lack of emotion).

3Captain Price

Price (voiced by Barry Sloane) is the character we are most familiar with. From his appearances in the previousModern Warfareseries and MW 2019, it’s hard to build upon such an iconic personality. However, MW2 does this very well by giving him more responsibility among the team and higher stakes to overcome.

We see his character go through a rollercoaster of emotions by showing adversity in the face of corrupt authority. Price is clearly the leader of 141 as he has the clearest Morales for the team to follow. It’ll be interesting to see how Activision moves forward with Price’s character development with post-launch content and possibly another game.

Modern Warfare II Captain Price Best Character

2John “Soap” MacTavish

John “Soap” MacTavish is one of the fan’s favorite characters from the oldModern Warfareseries, this is due to his bold and brave nature, as well as the fact that we play from his perspective for most of the game. This can, at points, make it hard to develop the character as we can’t actually interact with him to build the narrative surrounding his character, but the developers do an amazing job of developing his aura through cutscenes and moments that don’t involve direct gameplay.

Modern Warfare II John Soap MacTavish Best Character

In this version of MW, Soap is almost identical. He puts himself on the line to get the job done, the mission always comes first for Soap which only adds to the respect we have for him. He does have some slight changes as he’s brand new to the team chemistry of 141, but he settles well and is a fine addition to the squad.

This is only the start of his character development, his ruthless nature will continue to shine as we see more.

Modern Warfare II Alejandro Best Character

1Alejandro Vargas

Alejandro quickly became the stand-out character for most players. With his quick wits and charm, there’s not a thing the player can’t love about him. Although we may have expected a twist in which he is consumed by the negativity that surrounds his home, he stands strong throughout the campaign, always serving for the good of the people.

Alejandro serves as a guide for 141 as they pursue Hassan through Mexico and across the border. With a cast full of familiar personas, it’s awesome to see a fresh face voiced by Alain Mesa (who also appears in Forza 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2). He captures Alejandro’s charming nature beautifully with subtle hints towards how lethal this protagonist can really be. His family is briefly mentioned during one of the missions which may become a larger plot point as we receive more content surrounding the world ofModern Warfare.
