Call of Duty: Vanguardhas just announced that it is going free-to-play for a limited time. Gamers will have a chance to try out each ofCall of Duty: Vanguard’s maps and modes as well as participate in the new Season 3 content.

Call of Duty: Vanguardis the latest entry in the highly successfulCall of Dutyfranchise. Having released in 2021, the game received middling reviews party due to theheavily used World War 2 setting. Despite the disappointing sales, the developers have continued to improve the game with additional content including new maps, weapons, and new Operators. One important addition was the highly requested Trophy System equipment, along with giving players a means of unlocking the equipment regardless of their battle pass status or having to endure tedious challenges. This has given players an important set of progression goals aside from the common battle pass model.

Call of Duty: Vanguard’s multiplayer component will be free to play in its entirety until May 24. This includes over 20 maps, 10 game modes, Arms Race, Ship Haus, and the recently added Mayhem multiplayer map that came with Season 3 last month. The Mayhem multiplayer maphas players stomping around a vintage monster movie set, feeling like giants as they fight among a miniature metropolis. It’s recommended to bring along a Trophy System so players can be focused on fighting the enemy rather than on dodging grenades.

Free players will have full access to all the included classicCall of Dutymaps as well, such as Dome fromCall of Duty:Modern Warfare 3,Castle fromCall of Duty:World at War, and the legendary Shipment map introduced inCall of Duty 4:Modern Warfare. Free players can also compete in Arms Race, a large-map mode where players must capture all the bases to win. Operators respawn at captured bases where they can rearm, grab a vehicle, and head off to the next enemy base. Cash can be earned by capturing objectives or from looting defeated players, allowing players to purchase weapons, equipment, Killstreaks, Field Upgrades, or Custom Loadouts.

The free-to-play period has just begun and will only last for a week, so players will want to begin downloading the roughly 56GB installation as soon as possible to maximize their time in-game. This should be a worthwhile distraction for first-person-shooter fans as the wait for the highly anticipatedCall of Duty:Modern Warfare 2continues.

Call of Duty: Vanguardis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
