Bohemia Interactive released a new patch forDayZ, the zombie survival game that started out as a mod for Arma 2.DayZbecame a standalone early-access game for Windows andofficially released on Steam in 2018and consoles in 2019, despite numerous issues in the beta. The new 1.07 patch is intended to address many console bugs and expand the gameplay as well.

With the 1.07 patch, console players will enjoy many needed changes to the game. The update has many bug fixes and server upgrades, but the main appeal is new guns, ammo, and new locations added to the map– one ofDayZ’s strong points. The game is set in the fictional country of Chernarus, where a zombie outbreak has affected most people.

The map contains towns and industrial areas, but the 1.07 patch will add amusement parks. Amusement parks are a classic zombie attack location, largely because the atmosphere of an amusement park is typically exciting and loud, but in a zombie apocalypse, can seem eerie and scary, as one loud sound, and a zombie hoard could overrun the park.

The patch will also introduce the repeater carbine, a new gun, which will require the newly added .357 rounds as ammunition. 12 gauge rubber bullets will also be added as a bullet type for shotguns. These may seem like minor additions toDayZ, but, the console version is still fresh, needing many changes to catch up with the PC game. The game received a Steam awardfor Better With Friends, so these updates will hopefully improve upon the successful multiplayer aspect ofDayZ.

There are some fun additions to the game, but the patch seems to be intended to fix a long list of bugs plaguing the console version. Some of the issues fixed include audio, inventory mechanics, object interactions, and map tweaks. Overall, addressing bugs and adding features is a step in the right direction forDayZ, though, there have been someproblems in the past with the reception of new features.

The developers have faced some negative feedback regarding changes toDayZ. First, the game was banned in Australia for a controversial item, which was removed and the ban was lifted. After that, an update last year causedservers for the PC version to reset any progress. Although these setbacks seem substantial, it is important to note thatDayZstarted as only a mod and has made immense progress since being taken over as a standalone game.

DayZis available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
