The second part of the series,Dune: Part 2, arrived in theaters in March 2024 and saw its protagonist Paul Atreides rise to power over the universe by harnessing the culture and beliefs of the Fremen, the hardy natives of Dune who viewed Paul as the savior of prophecy. Though they had comparatively little screen time in the 2020Dunefilm, the Harkonnens prominently feature in some ofDune 2’s most striking scenes and visuals. Harkonnen costumes, architecture, and even the skin tones ofthe most important Harkonnen charactersare filmed in high-contrast monochrome, with deep blacks and colorless whites contrasting heavily throughout the movie. One fan, Reddit user Spider-K1n, seized on an unnamed Harkonnen character from the arena sequence on Giedi Prime, assembling a highly evocative customizedDestiny 2Titan gear set for fellow players to enjoy.

Destiny 2 Dune Custom Costumes Draw Inspiration from Harkonnen Style

While numerousDune-inspired costumes inDestiny 2emulate the look of Harkonnen desert troopers or Fremen stillsuits, Spider-K1n’s Titan costume drew immediate attention for its unusual source of inspiration: The Harkonnen Arena Guard, a faceless warrior placed in the arena on Giedi Prime during Feyd-Rautha’s birthday celebration. The Arena Guards manage the fighters during the celebration, keeping them corralled within Feyd-Rautha’s deadly reach. They wear all-black outfits and wide sharp-pointed headdresses. The headdress forms the centerpiece of Spider-K1n’s Arena Guard-themed costume, which cleverly employs the premium Celestial Helm armor piece to achieve the same outline and silhouette in conjunction withthe popular Superblack shader from the recent Into the Light update.

The other parts of the outfit were used to contribute to the costume’s emulation of the Harkonnen Arena Guard’s form-fitting outline. The cloth and leather material of theDestiny 2: LightfallCogent Beat chest piece and class item helped keep the look almost entirely matte black, while the low-rarity Midnight Oil legs and Streetware Arms helped keep the Titan’s outline on the slim side.Titan armor design inDestiny 2tends to stand out like a head of cornthanks to its tendency towards large, prominent shapes and pointy outlines. As such, Titan players looking for a “sleek” appearance often face an uphill battle finding just the right parts to use for their costumes.
