On June 23, Bungie announced on social media that it was disabling the rewards from private Crucible matches inDestiny 2. The post did not specify any reason behind the sudden disabling of rewards, but based on the comments, it is evident that the decision was made due to a glitch in private Crucible matches. The glitch, demonstrated by YouTuber Cheese Forever, let players farm extensive amounts of items and consumables even when they are AFK. To exploit this glitch,Destiny 2players only needed to launch a solo private Crucible match with specific settings and repeat the process.
Bungie Disables Destiny 2’s Private Crucible Match Rewards
The glitch only allowed players to farm resources, meaning it didn’t affect the PvP gameplay orcompetitive Crucible ranks inDestiny 2. As such, some players expressed frustration over Bungie’s decision, arguing that it didn’t harm the game’s economy or in-game store. One of them argued that exploiting this glitch only resulted in extended playtimes, so it was a win-win for both Bungie and the players, even if they were AFK. Clearly, though, Bungie felt otherwise. At the time of writing, Bungie has not provided an update on when rewards might return.
This is not the first time some players got enjoyment out of a bug inDestiny 2’s PvP modes. In November 2023,Bungie turned a funny Crucible bug into a permanent game mode inDestiny 2in response to a community request. This started as a bug in the Multiplex map, which let players ride on their hover bikes called Sparrows despite the mechanic not being intended for multiplayer. It did cause chaos on the map, with players attacking other teams with incredible speed, but at the end of the day, fans loved it and Bungie released the Sparrow Control mode.
