Destiny 2players noticed a bug last season that rewarded bonus XP after the game failed to reset XP bonuses from the previous one, but Bungie has removed this bug for the current season, Season of the Splicer. Although this may feel like a punishment to some players, Bungie has decided to add anew XP payout sizefor Seasonal Challenges, called “Extra Large XP.”
While the bonus XP bug from Season 13 was unintentional, the Extra Large XP payouts are in Season 14 meant to be there. According to Bungie, this payout is comparable to the amount of XP thatDestiny 2fans will need to earn to complete half of a Season Pass rank.

Destiny 2players may have benefited from last season’s bug more than they’ll benefit from the Extra Large XP payouts, butBungie didn’t intend on the bug to carry overto Season 14. According to Bungie, the developers realized the XP bug before the mid-season update of Season 13, but they decided to leave it in place for the remainder of the season so players could continue to benefit from it.
A confusing additional change with Season 14 is the change of XP naming conventions from XP, double XP, and 4x XP to various multipliers of Extra Large XP. Bungie continues to look at ways to name the bonus XP in a way that makes sense, but in the meantime, it has released a chart forDestiny 2players to easily calculate how much XP they’ll be rewarded.
The change of naming conventions has confused severalDestiny 2players, but Bungie’s chart translates last Season’s XP bonuses to today’s XP bonuses. According to the chart, Season 13’s standard XP is now x2 Extra Large XP which rewards a full Season Pass rank compared to the half rank of Extra Large XP. Double XP from Season 13 is now known as x4 Extra Large XP which rewards two Season Pass ranks. Finally, 4x XP is now called x8 Extra Large XP and it rewards a whopping 4 Season Pass ranks. Seasonal challenges remain the best way to earn Season Pass ranks inDestiny 2, and players who complete all of them will exceed level 100in the Season 14 Season Pass.
Considering the fact that Bungie is planning to change the XP naming convention in future updates,Destiny 2players may get used to the new system just to face another one in an upcoming season. Because the XP bug from last season didn’t makethe jump toDestiny 2Season 14, it makes sense why players wouldn’t end up receiving the same XP as last season. This naming convention change comes at a bad time as it joins the removal of this well-known XP bug.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
