Despite criticisms of its story, The Following DLC for the originalDying Lightis a game-changer in every other way. This ambitious and praiseworthy DLC ultimately turned out to be the best part of the franchise so far, with the sequelDying Light 2and its DLCs yet to surpass it.

WhileDying Light 2hasn’t managed to replicate the spectacle of the original game’s The Following DLC so far, it’s not too late to step up to the challenge. In other words, future DLCs forDying Light 2can still deliver a DLC that compares to the original’s The Following DLC.

Dying Light’s The Following DLC Feels like a Sequel

Even though there is a properDying Lightsequel by now,The Following DLC forDying Lightfeels more like a sequelto the original game than it does a DLC. Not only does this DLC feature its own self-contained storyline, but it also brings several new progression systems and a bold new destination to the game, among other unique features.

One of the most memorable features introduced inDying Light’s The Following DLC is the all-terrain vehicle, which proves especially useful for navigating the DLC’s massive countryside setting as well as killing zombies. Throughout The Following DLC, players can unlock unique cosmetics and upgrades for their car, complete with a new progression system that provides a variety of offensive equipment for vehicles, as well as skills that improve the vehicle’s performance.

The new skill tree for vehicles isn’t the only progression system that the DLC features, as it also introduces Survivor Ranks. These Survivor Ranks build upon the existing parkour and combat skill trees inDying Light, essentially adding in a new endgame grind while raising the level cap all in one convenient package.

Dying Light 2 Can Still Have its Own Version of The Following DLC

WhileDying Light 2’s DLCs still have yet to live up to The Following DLC, Techland allegedly has plans for whatDying Light 2’s version of The Following DLCcould look like. So, it seems like only a matter of time until the franchise comes full circle.

WithDying Light 2’s new Firearms Update, the sequel is seemingly already starting down this path of slowly reintroducing parts of the original game’s The Following DLC. In addition to a variety of firearms, this update also notably adds fan-favorite characters Tolga and Fatin toDying Light 2.

These characters send players on several comical side quests in the originalDying Light’s base game and The Following DLC, oftentimes rewarding players with unique weapons that are as powerful as they are bizarre. So, with these characters returning forDying Light 2, this is hopefully a sign of a chain reaction that will lead to other elements and adaptations of The Following DLC appearing in future updates forDying Light 2.

Aside from continuing Tolga and Fatin’s crazy questlines, another wayDying Light 2can deliver a DLC that lives up to The Following is to reintroduce vehicles. This has been a highly-requested feature forDying Light 2from the community ever since the sequel’s release, and it was one of the many defining features of The Following DLC.

Dying Light 2 Volatile

IfDying Light 2reintroduces vehicles from the original game, it should also reintroduce a similar progression system, as well as a new playable area that is accessible to vehicles, like The Following DLC did.

As likely as it seems,Dying Light 2’s DLCs surpassing The Following DLC would be a tall task, though it could be a game-changer nonetheless. For players who are all caught up on the latest DLCs inDying Light 2’s 2024 roadmap, this would be a great time to consider experiencing firsthand what makesDying Light’s The Following DLC so special. Otherwise, it’s likely only a matter of time untilDying Light 2gets its own Following DLC.
