A newElden Ringvideo theorizes about the silver Giant Crabs found in Raya Lucaria and whether they are actually unnatural creations akin to the Albinaurics.Elden Ringfeatures an incredibly diverse world full of different creatures, monsters, peoples, and gods. The origins and nature of these inhabitants of the Lands Between are often as strange as they are mysterious.Elden Ringwants players to speculate about these things, but never outright confirms anything.
Crabs inElden Ringare surprisingly populous. They can be found in nearly every environment, in both aggressive Giant Crab form and docile smaller form. It’s not uncommon forElden Ringplayers to stumble uponmessages reading “Dog” next to a crab. The crabs in Raya Lucaria are strange, however. For one, it’s a massive structure and not the wilderness. Further, they’re colored silver, not unlike the Albinaurics.

The latest video from Zullie the Witch asks just what these strange silver crabs are. She notes that not only are their shells a pale color, but theGiant Crabsalso produce magical sleep mist from their mouths. The first clue Zullie draws attention to is how crabs are referred to in the JapaneseElden Ring Official Complete Guide. In the guide, the term used for the crabs is “shirogane” which means “silver” or “platinum,” a term also used in the guide to describe the Albinaurics. Zullie alleges that this could mean the silver crabs were creations of the mages of Raya Lucaria.
Further evidence that the crabs are not natural creatures can be found in what Zullie refers to as the Japanese “character list.” There, the crabs are referred to as a “homunculus,” a term for an artificial creation. It’s difficult to imagine the crabs being referred to as a homunculus for any reason other than to clarify they’re unnatural creations.
Zullie then questions why the mages ofRaya Lucariamight create a species of crab. She points to the strange crystal-covered versions of the silver crabs found in the academy that drop Glinstone Crowns. Perhaps the mages of Raya Lucaria use the crabs to grow glinstone and then farm the creatures for material. It could be notable that so few crabs are covered in crystal, as that could mean they’ve already been farmed of theirs.
One other alternative theory from Zullie is that the crabs in Raya Lucaria simply adapted to living in the magical academy.Elden Ringhas a running theme of infection and corruption, so perhaps the crabs simply absorbed magic and glintstone - or ate Albinaurics. It just goes to show thatFromSoftware’s depravity is creative, if nothing else.
