Final Fantasy 14puts no small amount of importance on the moon.A Realm Reborn’sentire premise was built upon Hydaelyn’s smaller moon, Dalamud, rupturing and releasing theiconicFinal Fantasysummon Bahamutimprisoned within. At various points during the story, players have witnessed scenes of antagonists plotting and scheming upon the surface of the remaining moon, Menphina.Endwalkeritself will send players to the moon, where they will discover Mare Lamentorum: a somber section of Menphina where ancient ruins stand in hauntingly pristine condition.
This is not the first timeFinal Fantasy 14’sclever team synchronized their releases with celestial events. Last year,ShadowbringersPatch 5.3 releasedduring the peak of the Perseids meteor shower. Meteor showers played a significant role in the events of Patch 5.3, which acted as the conclusion for theShadowbringersstory and the beginning of the events that would lead intoEndwalker.
This concurrence betweenEndwalker’slaunch and the full moon is just another example of the delightful attention to detail that has endeared fans ofFinal Fantasy 14to the development team. While other MMORPGs have floundered and fell flat with tone-deaf responses and missed opportunities,Final Fantasy 14has humbly flourishedall while putting players wants and desires first.
These two events could, of course, be a complete coincidence that was unplanned byFinal Fantasy 14. Regardless of whether or not it was intentional, Warriors of Light probably won’t see the real full moon next month anyways, since their eyes will be glued to the one on their screens.
