Summary
It already seems safe to say thatGrand Theft Auto 6is going to be one of the biggest video game launches of all time. After years of speculating and combing through every last pixel ofGTA Onlinefor any hints or teases, fans finally got their first official look atGTA 6back in December of last year, and it exceeded expectations. After a graphical powerhouse of a trailer,Grand Theft Auto 6looks as though it could be the evolution of the franchise that fans have been longing for, but it’s still keeping its cards close to its chest.
Being just its debut trailer,Grand Theft Auto 6’s first reveal didn’t say too much about its story or characters, instead opting to give players more of an overview of the game’ssetting of Vice Cityand its inhabitants. Currently, the only official details ofGrand Theft Auto 6’s story are that it’ll revolve around a couple as they commit a series of crimes. But according to some recent rumors, a big twist might be in store for the couple, a twist that Rockstar should try its best to keep secret.

WhileGrand Theft Auto 6’s female protagonist, Lucia, has been officially named, its male protagonist hasn’t yet. It’s been heavily rumored that he’ll be named Jason.
Rockstar Shouldn’t Reveal Much About Grand Theft Auto 6’s Male Protagonist
The Rumors Surrounding GTA 6’s Male Protagonist Explained
Pretty much from the momentGrand Theft Auto 6’s official trailerlaunched, fans started theorizing that the game’s male protagonist could actually be an undercover cop, only getting close to Lucia in order to take her back to prison, or potentially catch some bigger fish associated with her crimes. Though there’s admittedly no real evidence for this theory right now,GTA 6’s debut trailer does put Lucia and Jason’s relationship at the forefront, perhaps hinting that there’s more there than meets the eye. The trailer ending with the couple saying “trust” to one another might also be a good indication that there could be some deception going on from at least one, and potentially both parties.
Rockstar Would Be Wise to Make The Most of These GTA 6 Rumors
Whether theserumors aboutGrand Theft Auto 6’s male protagonistare true or not, Rockstar should go above and beyond to keep the truth from players for as long as possible. In doing so, Rockstar would be able to generate even more speculation and hype surroundingGTA 6’s story, especially if it leaned into the theory with its next trailers. For example, ifGrand Theft Auto 6’s second trailer briefly shows Jason in a police station, this would serve to stoke the flames of speculation even more, with it being left unclear if Jason is there as a member of the police, or as a criminal suspect.
The key element for success here is for Rockstar to keep all of its teases completely ambiguous. If one ofGTA 6’s trailersleans too far in a certain direction, then it could end up either killing or proving the theory much too quickly, and thus speculation surrounding the topic will quickly die down. WhileGrand Theft Auto 6probably doesn’t need the extra boost of publicity, embracing this theory as a central mystery for the game’s marketing certainly wouldn’t harm it.
Of course, this is all much easier said than done.Grand Theft Auto 6has already suffered a number of hacks and leaks, and while none of those have spoiled any major plot points, it’s unfortunately probably only a matter of time. So, while Rockstar should try its best to maintain this mystery right up until release day, keeping such a major secret might not be possible with such a huge game.
