Summary

One comparison video between the upcoming PS5-exclusiveMarvel’s Spider-Man 2and the previous entry,Spider-Man: Miles Morales, showcases just how much faster traversal is in the new game. Withweb wings being introduced inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, the sequel to one of the PS4’s best games looks to improve on an already universally praised mechanic.

The Insomniac-developed series started in 2018 with the critical and commercial success ofSpider-Man. Fans got more of the same with the release of cross-gen hitSpider-Man: Miles Moralesin 2020, but now Insomniac looks to improve upon various mechanics and take the story into a bold new direction withMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. One of the biggest new features included in the highly-anticipated sequel is the addition of web wings. While these web wings initially just looked like a fun way to get around New York City, it actually appears as though they will serve some functional purpose as well.

One Reddit user is sharing a comparison video that pits traversal inSpider-Man: Miles Moralesagainst the upcoming sequel,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The video shows Spider-Man going from the same points in both maps but at vastly different speeds. InSpider-Man 2, a distance that takes the player roughly 20 seconds to travel across actually requires about 40 seconds inSpider-Man:Miles Morales. Again,Spider-Man: Miles Moralesalready ranks highly amongthe bestSpider-Mangames of all time, but Insomniac looks to raise the bar yet again.

As the video shows, the slingshot mechanic as well as the new web wings allow for much faster traversal as compared to the previous title in the franchise. This is most certainly a welcome feature considering the fact that theMarvel’s Spider-Man 2map is twice as big as its predecessoraccording to Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar. PlayStation’s big autumn release isn’t just doubling up the map either.

In addition to all the new features and areas to explore,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is also increasing the number of suits available at launch. The unlockable Spidey suits in the first few games proved incredibly popular, and the sequel looks to up the ante with the introduction of customization options for the various outfits.

WithSpider-Man 2being a PS5 exclusive, it looks to be the web-slinger’s first true current-gen experience. WhileSpider-Man: Miles Moraleswas a launch title for the PS5, it was simultaneously released on the PS4. Similarly,Spider-Man Remasteredlaunched alongside the PS5 as well, but it is more or less a polished iteration of the PS4 version rather than being developed from the ground up for the current hardware likeMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2releases October 20 on the PS5.
