Persona 4andSilent Hilldon’t have a great deal in common, as one is an RPG dealing with high school students harnessing supernatural powers to track down a serial killer, while the other takes various characters through the nightmareish hellscape that is the town ofSilent Hillitself. However, there is one commonality between the two, and that’s what got fans excited.

As the sun rose over Japan today, a quick glance outside in the Kanto region of the country revealed that the area was completely blanketed in a thick fog. While not unheard of, the density and scope of the fog was quite impressive, and Japanese citizens were warned to be particularly cautious while driving. It’s this fog that gotPersona 4andSilent Hillfans giddy, as it reminded fans of both series of their favorite moments.

Those who have played these games likely know that the fog plays a big role in both.Persona 4’s fog is usually present in theMidnight Channel, where the presence or absence of fog determines how Shadows react to the playable characters and others. The game’s OST even includes a track simply titled ‘The Fog.’

Silent Hill, on the other hand, with the exception of a few outlying later releases, almost always involves fog. Originally, the fog was utilized to help hide the PlayStation 1’s graphical shortcomings, but it ultimately became a tradition in the series, reappearing in subsequent games.
