Ray Fisher, who is perhaps best known for playing Cyborg in the DC Extended Universe, recently commented on Walter Hamada’s exit as head of DC Films. The relationship between the two had grown acrimonious due to allegations of misconduct on Hamada’s part during an investigation intoJustice Leaguereshoots under Joss Whedon.There is little love lost between Fisher and Hamada.Fisher accused Joss Whedon, publicly, of racist behavior onJustice League, and as head of DC Films at the time, Hamada was part of the investigation. Fisher also called out Hamada during that investigation for siding with the director and allegedly sweeping his misconduct under the rug. He failed. He tried to bury me (and the Justice League investigation) with lies in the trades. He failed,” Fisher wrote. “He is a product of old Hollywood cronyism. May we never experience his like again. Onward! A>E”.
Hamada initially announced he wouldcontinue as Chief of DC Films for Warner Bros. through 2023. However, following the acquisition of Warner Bros. by Discovery, new CEO David Zaslav made several unpopular moves that appeared to contribute to Hamada’s exit. The creative direction of the DC Extended Universe was particularly impacted, and the halt in production ofBatgirl,which was nearly done, incensed many creatives throughout the industry, who felt that it was disrespectfully done.
Fisher, who has previously refused to work onany films associated with the DC Films boss, appeared to see Hamada’s exit as a win. The recent rumors of a Superman vs. Black Adam film, with Henry Cavill in the Superman role, indicate that the new administration at Warner Bros. is open to continuing with the old DCEU actors. The removal of Hamada means that, for his part, Fisher may be up for a return.
Fisher had previously expressed an interest in stillreturning as Cyborg inThe Flashmovie, where he had been rumored to have had a substantial role. That film has been finished for some time now, and the drama surrounding film star Ezra Miller probably means that vehicle would not be the best fit for Fisher’s return to DC. Who knows what the future holds, though? Perhaps the actor can appear in another DC project.
