Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter, who playedJessica Jonesand Luke Cage, respectively, reached out to co-star Eka Darville, who played Malcolm Ducasse, following the hardship that Darville and his family are going through.
Darville recently announced that his son, Mana, suffers from multiple malignant brain tumors. To pay for treatment and cure the “incurable,” Darvill set up a GoFundMe page. Ritter posted the following on her Instagram page: “Please watch and help lift sweet Mana and @ekadarville and his special beautiful family. I love you beyond what I could ever write here, Eka.” Colter also shared the video, posting the following on his Instagram page: “@ekadarville is a great guy. We met each other 7 years ago while filming #JessicaJones for #marvel. He and his wife are one of a kind. They already had a beautiful boy and were expecting another around the same time as my wife and I were expecting our first born. That little boy @the.mana.ohana is now in need of our help. Miracles happen every single day somewhere on this planet. Why not for @the.mana.ohana. Watch the video and go to @ekadarville bio to do whatever you can.”
While Ritter and Darville played their characters for all three seasons ofJessica Jones, Colter played Cage for one - the show’s first season. Cage only played a role in the show’s first season, but that role was pivotal in helping Jessica overcomethe show’s iconic antagonist Kilgrave. It also helped establish his character before the release of theLuke Cageshow, which would revolve around him not too long afterward. Ritter and Colter would reunite for Marvel’sThe Defendersafter that.
It truly is heartwarming to see those in Hollywood using their influence to try and save a child’s life. Not only does their status as actors help get enough attention to get children like Mana the medical attention they need, but other actors who have worked with them can do the same, thus spreading the message even further abroad. Mana’s story has inspired other alumni fromJessica Jonesto join in,including Erin Moriarty ofThe Boys, who was in the first season.
All the best to Mana Darville, who’s going through unspeakable pain and tribulation at a young age. No child deserves to go through what he’s going through right now. Luckily we live in an age where people can hear about these causes, and they can do something about it. In a time when people can get so easily divided and contemptuous because of the internet’s exposure, causes like these remind the world that humanity is capable of extraordinarily noble deeds like saving a child’s life thanks to the internet’s impact.
