Development studio Infinity Ward sent surveys to lapsed players of the popular shooter last week to ask how to bring them back into the fold asModern Warfare’s first seasonal content kicks into high gear.
The launch ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfareover the fall brought the annual series back in a big way, debuting to the tune of $600 million in sales and earning Infinity Ward a much-needed hit after the middling reception to their previous entries,GhostsandInfinite Warfare.Enterprising fans have wasted no time in finding exploits and bugs present within the game’s multiplayer in the weeks since launch, includinginconsistent damage from weapons like the .357 Snake Shotand problems with hitboxes and balancing, and while Infinity Ward has been proactive about catching the worst issues quickly, it hasn’t kept some fans from leaving.

Reddit users shared surveys sent by email toCall of Duty: Modern Warfareowners asking what could convince fans to give the shooter another try. The uncommonly direct approach appears to be built by Infinity Ward in order to judge what features and fixes to prioritize in future patches for the game, with potential answers including a desire for new content, fixes for various issues, or balance problems to be resolved. A number of the survey options also pertained toModern Warfare’s Spec Ops mode, which has seen mixed reception in the weeks since launch.
One particular omission from the survey that gave participants pause was the absence of comments onModern Warfare’s controversial skill-based matchmaking system, which prioritizes player performance over sheer network connection when placing players into multiplayer games. Fans have reported an increased amount of lag and connection issues with the title due to the system, but Infinity Ward and Activision have kept quiet on the topic, indicating that it’s likely here to stay.
Call of Duty: Modern WarfareSeason 1made its debut with a patch added to the game last week, introducing a battle pass for players to unlock free or premium rewards, as well as new multiplayer maps and plans for weekly content drops.
