2K and Visual Concepts have announced thatNBA 2K24will be adding a major feature that players have wanting for years.NBA 2K24will be the first game in the franchise to feature cross-play, the ability to play multiplayer with players on separate platforms – though there’s a major catch. After waiting so long forNBA 2K24to add crossplay, it’s perhaps unsurprising that 2K and Visual Concepts aren’t fully implementing it. Crossplay in the basketball game will be limited to just two platforms.
Crossplay has been one of the most requested features for theNBA 2Kfranchise for years running. The reasons why Visual Concepts took so long to implement crossplay aren’t clear, though fans suspect it has to do with theNBA 2Kfranchise’s yearly release schedule.NBA 2K23did implement MyTEAM cross-progression within console families, so PlayStation 4 players and Xbox One players could upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S while carrying over their microtransactions and wallets.

NBA 2K24will be another step forward for the franchise in terms of shared play across platforms.2K and Visual Conceptsannounced via a new trailer thatNBA 2K24would be the first game in the franchise to feature crossplay. Crossplay will be immediately available whenNBA 2K24launches on September 8, but there’s a catch.
The catch is that crossplay forNBA 2K24won’t be available across all platforms, or even most supported platforms. Visual Concepts has only enabled crossplay between the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions ofNBA 2K24. That means that not only will PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One not support crossplay, but neither will PC. It’s unclear why only two platforms will support crossplay, but it likely has to do withPS5 and Xbox Series X/S having higher development priorityover other platforms.
Crossplay will support all multiplayer game modes inNBA 2K24. That includes co-op matches, online tournaments, and casual games. More information aboutNBA 2K24’s MyTEAMSwill likely be made available closer to launch.
Even with the restrictions on which platformsNBA 2K24will support crossplay on, this is a major step forward for the franchise.
