Mangaka Kae Hashimoto revealed that they will be working on a new spin-off series in theCells at Work!franchise. The announcement was made on their Twitter account on January 16.
Hashimoto is currently writing theInterviews with Monster Girlsspin-off,Occult-chan wa Katarenai, which began serialization in Young Magazine the 3rd in 2019 before moving to Monthly Young Magazine in 2021.

The new series,Cells at Work! Illegal, will launch on the YanMaga website starting February 1. New chapters will be released on the first and third Tuesday of every month from then on. Akane Shimizu’sCells at Work!manga serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Shōnen Sirius magazine from 2015-2021, amassing 6 tankōbon volumes during its run. Theoriginal series’ popularityhas inspired a variety of manga spin-offs over the years, withIllegalstanding as the 9th so far.
David Production animated a 13-episodeanime adaptationduring the Summer 2018 season. The series was followed by an 8-episode second season,Cellsat Work!!, which aired during the Winter 2021 season. Kenichi Suzuki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean,JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders - Battle in Egypt) directed the first season, while Hirofumi Ogura (Gintama,Yakitate!! Japan) took over for the second season. Yūko Kakihara (Kids on the Slope,Chihayafuru) worked the series script and composition alongside Suzuki, with Kenichiro Suehiro (Re:ZERO,Golden Kamuy) and MAYUKO handling the music.
