The Grand Line is certainly a magical place and it follows its own laws, which is what makes it a sea of uncertainty, where anything that a human can imagine to exist, does exist.

The Introduction To The Grand Line

The very introduction to the Grand Line comes at the beginning ofOne Piece,no matter which form of medium the reader consumes. At the very beginning of the story, the Grand Line is introduced as a stretch of ocean where Roger left theOne Pieceand he urges the people to go and find it. As soon as he sets out on his journey,Luffy explains that he wants to go to the Grand Lineand locate the treasure left behind by Roger at the end of his grand adventure.

While it is Luffy who mentions this sea to the fans for the first time, it is Nami who ends up explaining the ocean and how it works. The world ofOne Pieceis divided into four quadrants and these are the North Blue, the West Blue, the South Blue, and the East Blue.A stretch of land that is around 10,000 meters tall goes around the center of the entire planet, and this is called the Red Line.

Directly perpendicular to this red line is a stretch of the sea which is the Grand Line. Together, these two are what divide the world ofOne Pieceinto four quadrants. The only way to enter the Grand Line is by going up the Reverse Mountain. Each quadrant of the world has a stream that goes up the mountain and drops the person into the Grand Line.

While one might wonder as to why they can’t just cross into the Grand Line from the sides, this is because there is a stretch of ocean that protects the Grand Line from entries from the sides. Across these stretches of ocean, called the Calm Belt, no currents flow, which means ships that are not paddle ships cannot sail through. Even those that can sail through would be met with giant sea beasts that would sink ships in an instant, especially given that the Sea Kings in this area are much larger than even in the Grand Line itself. As such, it is established that the only way to enter the Grand Line is to go up the reverse mountain and then fall back into the Paradise side of the ocean.

Inside the Grand Line

Inside the Grand Line, there are countless islands, and it is believed that at the end of the Grand Line is the treasure that Roger left behind. This is largely speculative, however. Fans who have read the manga know that there is much more to it than just that. As soon as a pirate ship enters the Grand Line, they immediately realize that the laws of nature do not apply to this stretch of ocean. Navigating in the Grand Line is nearly impossible, unless the navigator is equipped with the right tools. The most important tool to navigate the Grand Line Is the Log Pose.

Regular compasses are absolutely useless in this stretch of ocean, meaning the log pose is the only thing that a navigator can trust. These log poses attune themselves to the magnetic field of the island that they are on and the island that is adjacent to it. Based on that, it determines the path forward in the Grand Line. The time it takes for these log poses to adjust to a certain magnetic field is completely dependent on the island that the user is on.

Some can take a matter of hours, while others can take years, which just goes to show how broad this adjustment time can be.

At the same time, the weather inside the Grand Line is incredibly erratic. It can be raining at one moment and snowing at the other, which could then be followed by a sunny summer within a matter of a day. The weather inside the Grand Line can absolutely not be predicted, however, through some means,Nami has done incredibly wellto keep up with the changes in this ocean, which is what makes her an invaluable asset to the crew.

The New World

It is very difficult for a crew to come across every single island in the Grand Line. Usually, there are different paths that all lead to the Red Line once a pirate crew enters the Grand Line. By taking one particular path, they all converge at one point, and this is Sabaody Archipelago. This island lies very close to the Red Line as well as the Marine HQ. From here onwards, the journey gets even more tumultuous. Reaching this point means that a pirate crew has successfully finished the first part of the Grand Line and that it is time to enter the second part of the Grand Line, which is known as the New World.

The New World is everything that the Grand Line is, but intensified by 100 times. It is incredibly erratic and, at the same time, the creatures present in these oceans are bigger and stronger. That also means that the pirates that plague these seas are even stronger, and those who aim to find theOne Piecespecifically make this sea their home. In fact, the first half of the Grand Line is actually called Paradise, which just goes to show how easier it is to live in when compared to the New World.

Inside the New World, there are countless islands, however, these islands cannot be visited using a regular Log Pose. Instead, there is a special log pose with three compasses in it that is used to navigate the New World. This is down to the fact that islands in the New World can completely change their magnetic fields or even hide them in rare cases, and if that happens, the user would then have two backup options to go to. The most erratic of the needles is the most dangerous path and the most stable one is the safest route to take.

The Resting Place Of The One Piece

One would assume that theOne Pieceis located at the end of the New World. However, that is not the case. Just as Sabaody Archipelago lies at the end of the Paradise half of the Grand Line, the island that lies at the end of the New World is called Lodestar Island. This is the island where those who are in the quest for theOne Piecefind out how to go about it. They also learn about the necessary tools they need to be equipped with in order to locate the One Piece. Roger, the former Pirate King, went to this island and learned all about the Poneglyphs. From there onwards, he restarted his journey once again and eventually became the Pirate King.

The resting place of theOne Piececannot be located by any Log Pose, unless the exact coordinates of this place are given to a person. These can be locatedby following special types of Poneglyphswhich are red in color. Once these Road Poneglyphs are acquired, the user can then locate the location of the Final Island, Laugh Tale, and go on to claim theOne Piece.Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have a long way to go, especially in the live-action. However, fans can rest assured that this journey is going to be an incredible one.
