Overwatch 2has introduced a few fun parody events into the game since its launch on June 11, 2025. If the game wants to ride off the popularity of recent trends, there is one theme that would make perfect sense for thehero shooter’s next parody event.
Overwatch 2’s Starwatch event, which dives intoStar Wars-esque aesthetics and game modes, is coming to an end, which means Activision Blizzard will have to start thinking of what new event to add into the game next. Aside from Starwatch, so far the game has seen a dating sim-like event called Loverwatch to celebrate Valentine’s Day, a “Battle For Olympus” Greek mythology event, and aOne-Punch Manevent. It’s safe to assume that there will be another themed event somewhere in the near future, but it’s unclear what exactly it will be yet. However, superheroes seem like a clear candidate.

Overwatch 2’s Next Event Should Be Superhero Themed
With the events that have already made their way toOverwatch 2, it seems like Activision Blizzard likes following what’s trending when it comes to deciding what themes to go for. Starwatch beginning just a little afterStar WarsDay was clearly an intentional decision, as was starting Loverwatch in February around Valentine’s Day.
For Activision Blizzard to keep with their trend-riding mentality, it would be a no-brainer to incorporate a superhero themed event. With major superhero films coming out like Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3andSpider-Man Across The Spider-verse, people are going to be in the superhero mood. There’s no better time forOverwatch 2to capitalize on superheroes than now.

A superhero theme makes even more sense forOverwatch 2because at its core,Overwatch 2is already asuperhero game. Teams of 5 play as various characters with superhuman abilities and attributes against opposing forces in order to essentially liberate the zones that they fight over through capturing a control point, delivering a payload, or a giant robot that’s roaming around the city for some reason. That all sounds very superhero-like when it’s broken down, so doing all of that while looking like a superhero is an exciting idea.
Overwatch 2’s Superhero DNA is extended even further within the game’s lore. In the game’s backstory, Overwatch itself is a group of highly skilled and elite individuals that’s sole purpose is to restore peace to the world. Additionally, there’s a super villain group in the game’s lore known as Talon. These two forces could easily be represented through traditionalsuperhero charactersand themes that are widely known and loved.
Overwatch 2 Skin Ideas For a Superhero Theme
There are so many ways to incorporate superheroes intoOverwatch 2. One obvious way to really get players excited about the event would be to make a variety of superhero-themed cosmetics. A lot of theOverwatchcharactershave enough resemblances to traditional Marvel and DC heroes to make some parody skins work really well. Of course, this would work better if Activision Blizzard is able to officially license a deal with Marvel or DC to actually bring these superheroes into the game as skins, similar toOverwatch 2’sOne-Punch Manskins.
Some feasible ideas forOverwatch 2skinsin the superhero theme could be Hanzo as Green Arrow or Hawkeye, Doomfist as Superman, Winston as The Hulk, Genji as The Flash, and maybe Widowmaker as Black Widow. Even if Activision Blizzard decides to not go the route of licensed superheroes, original skins in the superhero format would still be a really cool idea.
Alongside skins,Overwatch 2could introduce a new superhero game mode. The mode could borrow an idea from the Battle for Olympus event in which players can only pick between the select heroes who have received a superhero skin, fighting against each other with different abilities depending on the superhero they play as. If not that, maybe there could be a newOverwatch 2PvEmode where players have to fight through a city of superhero villains while they dress up in one of the new superhero skins introduced. With maps like Numbani able to get reworked into Marvel’s Wakanda, there are a lot of ways to make an official or unofficial parody event enjoyable.
Overwatch 2is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
