Summary
An artistically talentedPokemonfan and artist is sharing their impressive regional form designs online of a number of different Pokemon. Featuring a wide swathe of creatures across different generations like Xatu, Torterra andthe regional form-inundated Tauros, the post features plenty of creative reimaginings of classic fan-favorites, leading thousands ofPokemonfans to take a look at it themselves.
First introduced as part ofPokemon’s seventh generation, regional forms - sometimes referred to as regional variants - are alternate versions of contemporary Pokemon, which almost universally have a distinctive physical appearance in addition to different typing. These forms have given older characters a new lease on life, with numerous bland Pokemon designs redeemed by their regional form. Regional forms have also proven to be popular with thePokemonfandom, with many fans creating their own designs, such as the ones below.

The group ofPokemon regional formscomes from a Reddit user named SayuriKoopa, who posted their impressive collection of art to one of the site’s majorPokemonpages. The first slide is of Natu and Xatu, which have a blue and white color scheme to match their Ice/Flying typing. A dual-type Grass/Ghost Torterra is next, featuring a spooky graveyard atop its back. Flittle and Espathra keep the spookiness going with a mummified makeover as Ghost-types. Greavard and Houndstone remain largely recognizable, save for blue fire and visible eyes as dual-type Ghost/Fire Pokemon.
The final slide features interesting regional forms for Hawlucha and Tauros, which have been made into dual-types Fighting/Dark and Ghost/Fire, respectively. Hawlucha looks like a matador, featuring cape-like feathers on its arms. The Tauros design brings a vibe of intimidation, sporting massive back spikes, an ethereal mane, and intense eyes. While undoubtedly an impressive collection, these aren’t the first regional forms the artist has created, as they have also recently createdregional variants for the Tinkaton evolutionary line.
Regional Pokemon vs. Convergent Pokemon
In addition to creating what would be considered “true” regional forms, SayuriKoopa has also been creating “regional fakes”, otherwise commonly referred to as convergent Pokemon. The artistdesigned convergent Pokemon species based on Lilligant, Musharna, and Polteageist, which resulted in just as equally imaginative designs as the ones featured above.
While regional variants and alternate typing appear to currently be the hottest trend inPokemonfan art, fan-made Mega Evolution drawings could soon see a spike in frequency thanks to the recent announcement thatPokemon Legends Z-Ais bringing Mega Evolutionsback as a mechanic. Although there’s no word on which Pokemon will be receiving Mega Evolutions in the upcoming game, that won’t stopPokemonfans from designing plenty of their own.
