Game Freak has revealed patch notes for the upcomingPokemon Scarlet and Violetupdate 1.2.0, which is slated to release sometime in late February, and one of the adjustments will see fewer spawns in certain locations. This, unfortunately, may have a negative impact onshiny hunting inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.
There’s a lot coming in this next update, though. The full patch notes are below, but fans will be getting some improvements to the Box System; bug fixes to tera raid battles, as well as certain battle changes; fixes to bugs involving Dondozo and Tatsugiri, the move Destiny Bond, and a few others; and finally a few miscellaneous fixes that should improve the overallPokemon Scarlet and Violetexperience. Indeed, that’s what the reduction in spawns is designed to do, to improve performance, but fewer spawns inherently mean harder shiny hunting.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Will Spawn Fewer Pokemon in Certain Locations
The patch notes specify that Game Freak intends to fix an issue that forcibly closes the game at certain locations, but this fix involves reducing the number of Pokemon and people displayed in sad locations, whether new certain towns or in the wild. The base shiny odds equal 1/4096, but if there are fewer spawns, that’s going to feel harder to obtain. Luckily, theShiny Charm inPokemon Scarlet and Violetreduces the base odds to 1/1365 - but again, fewer Pokemon means this may take longer and be harder. This is especially true for Pokemon who only appear in certain locations, if one of those places will be impacted. It’s hard to say which Pokemon would be affected the worst by this change.
However, it’s worth noting that two of the most standard methods of shiny hunting should remain unaffected. UsingMass Outbreaks in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet,as well as the Masuda Method, should bypass this. The most affected individuals will be the ones hunting for certain Pokemon, their favorite perhaps, without these benefits. It remains to be seen how badly this affects shiny hunting, but the impact is pretty clear: the fewer Pokemon that spawn, the harder it will be to find shiny versions of that Pokemon.
