And while Rockstar Games has been awfully quiet about what this new update will bring to its already huge world, a new rumor suggests that it will finally be expanding the game’s map.
Grand Theft Auto Onlinehas been a massive hit for Rockstar Games since its launch on the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013. Since then, the frequent free updates on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions of the game have made it even better, leading to a massive player count as the game witnessed its best-ever fiscal second quarter this year.

Hence, this new rumor should please theGrand Theft Auto Onlineplayers as this year’s winter update is confirmed to be the “biggest ever,” and isrumored to add a new heistthat takes place “in an entirely new location.” The new rumor also aligns with what Rockstar Games confirmed back during the game’s summer event. It comes from a popular Rockstar Insider Liberty93 who claims that the new update will be the “biggest in the history of GTA Online” and will see the game’s map expand for the very first time. Furthermore, according to him, this new location has already been teased in themusic video of Gorillaz song, “The Valley of the Pagans,” which was recently made private on YouTube, hence adding fuel to this rumor. The video was shot inside the world ofGrand Theft Auto 5and featured an island that resemblances the one on Gorillaz Plastic Beach Album.
Liberty93 also, unfortunately, claims that this map expansion may not be a part of this year’s planned winter update, which may only add new locations in the form of new buildings such as the Kortz Center Museum. All of this should, however, be taken with a grain of salt as the only confirmed piece of information we do know at this time is the addition of a new heist, just like last year’sDiamond Casino Heist, which was also added in winter.
Grand Theft Auto Onlinewill also be coming to PS5 in 2021 as a free-to-play title addingplenty of exclusive contentfor new and old players to look forward to. Perhaps this map expansion will also be a part of this next-gen version of the game and may not come to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game at all.
Grand Theft Auto Onlineis now available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, with a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S update planned for 2021.
