Mandalorians are pretty cool folks. Their craftsmanship, mysteriousness and overall look makes them one ofStar Warsmost beloved family of characters. There’s no argument thatThe Mandalorianserves as proof of this, given its poster child status for Disney+ and the fact that the show is all but officially confirmed for a third season.

As it turns out, these bounty hunters are so popular that Lucasfilm is reportedly considering bringing back the original helmet-wearing outlaw for a miniseries starring Boba Fett, even before dedicating their efforts toThe Mandalorian’seventual third season.

Boba Fett Temuera Morrison

These rumors stem from reports by Deadline that aStar Wars show is set to begin production as early as next week. However, contrary to previous thoughts instead of it being anew season forThe Mandalorian, the Boba Fett project would get the nod first with the current hit show waiting until spring 2021 for Jon Favreau to resume work on it. This wouldn’t rule outThe Mandaloriancoming back before a Boba Fett miniseries, but the reverse scenario would fill the space between Mando’s seasons.

News of this does not come as a surprise considering Disney has been very open about exploring new series orspin-offs for theStar Warsuniverse, including a potential female led production that may or may not be Gina Carano’s Cara Dune, Bo-Katan Kryze fromStar Wars Rebelsor some yet unknown character.

Earlier this year, former Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke of the possibility of expanding characters from the original trilogy, something they’re already doing by exploring Obi-Wan Kenobi’s time betweenRevenge of the SithandA New Hope. All this plays perfectly withBoba Fett making a comebackinThe Mandalorian’sseason 2 premiere, though it still remains unclear in what capacity that will be, considering the Fetts are all clones and Boba Fett supposedly met his demise inReturn of the Jedi.

Boba Fett had a short-lived run in Star Wars, in fact his screen time is on the low end of things with him being a background character, but for some reason his appeal stuck on with fans. (Though it probably had a lot to do with his jet pack.) Regardless of whatThe Mandalorian’swriters come up with to explain Temuera Morrison’s appearance on Tatooine, the Boba Fett movie that never was would be a promising miniseries for Disney+.

The Mandalorianis available on Disney+ with episode 2 of its second season premiering this Friday, November 6.
