Summary

While it’s expected for any game to have cut content, aStarfieldplayer came across a unique type of habitat module that inexplicably appears to be missing from the ship builder.Starfield’s ship builderis arguably one of the strongest aspects of the game. From defining a vessel’s shape with structural parts and arming it with weaponry to planning out its interior layout with habitats – players are not only given plenty of freedom to design their starship, but are also expected to engage with all the planning and tinkering it entails.

One of the unspoken rules in the ship building community is tominimize the use of ladders inStarfield, as the sluggish animation can make navigating through one’s vessel needlessly hard. This is accomplished by having a logical habitat layout that is preferably kept to one floor only (two floors if using the large Cabot C4 cockpit from Nova Galactic). It’s generally agreed upon that the most valuable amenities to have on a ship include crafting stations, a research station, and a bed.

to have a bed,Starfieldplayers must place at least one dedicated 2x1 Hab (either the All-in-One Berth, or the Captain’s Quarters), which largely leaves 1x1 Habs useless beyond being connecting parts for larger ships or serving as habitat junctions. However, a player named MalagrugrousPatroon came across a derelict ship inStarfieldthat seemed to have a 1x1 Hab with a bunk bed, a luxury that’s currently unavailable when using the ship builder.

The strange omission of this habitat does hinder the overall viability of smaller ship builds, as it would allowStarfieldplayers to fit all the important ship amenities within a 3x2 layout (with one 1x1 tile accounting for the cockpit). Though some players strongly believe thatStarfieldcut a ship manufacturerfrom the game, adding any removed or unused habitats should be a much easier endeavor for the modding community.

Todd Howard and Bethesda promised thatStarfieldwould be getting official mod support in early 2024, and considering that over two hundred employees are still assigned to the game, it wouldn’t be out of the question if Shattered Space came out around the same time frame. Though it remains to be seenwhat Shattered Space will add toStarfield, most fans believe that the DLC will either focus on the New Game Plus mechanics, or potentially even explore the mysterious House Va’ruun faction.
