Once players embark on the UC Vanguard faction quests inStarfield, they will come across a dark truth that the United Colonies is hiding from its rival governments, a secret that will surely unravel the years of peace between them, House Va’ruun, andthe Freestar Collective. That very secret inStarfieldlies in the fact that Vae Victis is still alive.

Vae Victis is the father of Hadrian, a member of the United Colonies that players have been working closely with. The fact that Vae Victis is alive certainly doesn’t pose well for those who cannot keep a secret, or feel it necessary to let her daughter know the truth. Yet,should players tell Hadrian about her father inStarfield, or keep it a secret?
Outcome 1: Tell Hadrian About Her Father
Players will have three opportunities to tell Hadrian about her father, Vae Victis. The first time will be after they find out, where they will be able to talk to Major Hadrian on Mars in The Devils You Know quest. Players can tell Hadrian the truth here, and she won’t react too kindly to the news but then decides that she will not allow a ghost to define who she is. However,if they don’t tell her here, then they will have another opportunity to do so in the future.
The next time players can tell Hadrian about her dad being alive is in the Hostile Intelligence mission. This can be done after Hadrian and the player discover an audio log detailing Vae Victis’ orders to kill everyone on Londinion to hide the truth about the Terramorphs. The conversation plays roughly the same, and the outcome is the same.

The last and final time that players can tell Hadrian about her father being alive is in the potentiallast UC Vanguard mission: A Legacy Forged. This mission can have players cover for Vae Victis and lie for him, or, they can expose the truth to the Cabinet and Hadrian. Telling Hadrian here will ensure that the truth is known to the Cabinet, andthere is no way to keep Vae Victis secret if Hadrian knows about her father being alive.
If players tell Hadrian the truth about her father being alive, then they will lock themselves out of the final UC Vanguard quest, which involves the player working with Vae Victis to hunt downUnited Colonies criminals. As long as Hadrian knows about her father still being alive, she will present this evidence to the United Colonies Cabinet, forcing them to kill Vae Victis.
Outcome 2: Not Telling Hadrian About Her Father
When players first meet Vae Victis, he will ask the player to swear to secrecy surrounding the fact that he is still alive. Despite the agreement of the Armistice stating that Vae Victis is a criminal who must be brought to justice through execution, he is valued too highly to be killed and has been relegated to a life of secrecy and service to the United Colonies at Subsection Seven, a highly secret facility in thebasement of the MAST Building.

There are ample opportunities in which the player can tell Hadrian that Vae Victis is alive, and players can either just ignore the subject by talking about something else, or they can completely lie to her.Whether players reveal the fact that he is alive or not does not have an effect on their relationship with Hadrian, as she will either be none the wiser to her father’s existence, or she will simply understand that the player was just doing their duty by not telling her in the first place.
Once players reach A Legacy Forged, they are at an impasse on whether they should finally tell Hadrian the truth. With this mission, there is no going back, and players can either choose to keep Vae Victis secret and his plan for his legacy and his daughter, or they can expose that plan, and let him be brought to justice for his crimes against the Settled Systems, and his dangerous knowledge and use of the Terramorphs. However, if players want to claim another and final mission from the United Colonies Vanguard quest chain, thenthey should not tell Hadrian the truth about her father.Either decision does not impactcompanion relationships.
What’s The Best Solution?
The best solution is to lie, andnot tell Hadrian that her father is still alive. By lying to Hadrian, she will be none the wiser, so she cannot hold anything against the player. A government conspiracy and potential war cannot be possible, as Vae Victis’ secret remains in the knowledge of a select few and trusted people. If players do not tell Hadrian about Vae Victis, then they canget a new UC faction questat the end of A Legacy Forged.
This mission can be a lot of fun, but it comes at the difficult cost of evading justice, as players will never get to see Vae Victis face consequences for his crimes against humanity. However, for added content, and an opportunity to hunt down rogue United Colonies criminals,players should definitely lie and not tell Hadrian about her father. Telling her the truthgrants no reward, and will lock players out of the final mission.
