Last Epochjust got a very steep hike in the number of concurrent players on Steam after adding multiplayer. The indie dungeon-crawler has been around in Steam’s early access for a while now, and though it had been building a solid fan base, the number of concurrent players it maintained before adding multiplayer was but a mere fraction of what it is now.
Last Epochwas released in Steam’s early access back in 2019, being constantly updated by its dedicated team of developers at Eleventh Hour Games while also building up a modest fan base. The team began with development focusing on refiningLast Epoch’s dungeon-crawling hack-and-slash gameplay first, and only then going over the graphics. Now, with the video game closing in on its expected release date sometime this year, the developers have released a host of balance changes, new content, and new features.

One of the new featuresincluded in the indie dungeon-crawler was multiplayer, after which its number of concurrent players on Steam went from around 700-1500 to an all-time high of 40,591, a remarkable feat for the video game and its developers alike. And while the number came down, by the evening of March 13, there were around 33,500 people still playing the game, still representing a major spike.
Often compared to classic dungeon-crawlerDiablobecause of its hack-and-slash gameplay,Last Epoch“combines time travel, exciting dungeon crawling, engrossing character customization and endless replayability to create an Action RPG for veterans and newcomers alike,” according to the description on the video game’s Steam page. The Action RPG holds a “very positive” overall review score with over 80% of all reviews being positive. Its recent reviews, however, are “mostly positive” with 76% of the reviews being positive, with the slight increase in negative reviews being most likely associated with bugs and errors common in new releases.
Featuring a skill treesimilar to, but simpler than, toPath of Exile’s,Last Epochdoes what dungeon-crawlers do best. The game offers a fantasy world riddled with evil and dotted with dungeons filled with precious loot and hosts of enemies to slaughter. And with the numbers theDiablo-like pulled off, it can’t be said that a good round of loot hunting and hacking through hordes of enemies doesn’t bring friends closer.
With theDiablo-like slated for release sometime this year,Last Epochis definitely building up momentum among gamers, particularly for fans ofdungeon-crawler and RPG style gameswho enjoy going on quests and ridding dungeons of all kinds of evil hosts. And if the numbers and positive reviews do the game any justice, thenLast Epochmust be a solid choice of a dungeon-crawler for gathering a party and going raiding.
