The Last of Us Part 2will pit players against three different types of enemies: The WLF, the Scars, and, of course, the Infected. Each enemy type will pose its own kind of threats, and whether or not the player overcomes these situations will depend on their use ofEllie’s unique skillset.
Details about who these enemies are and how they operate come from thePlayStation State of Play event dedicated toThe Last of Us Part 2. There, Neil Druckmann — the game’s director — divulged new information on the title for over 20 minutes, discussing things like the mentioned enemies.

The Last of Us Part 2will bring back Infected enemies from Part 1, like Runners, Clickers, and Stalkers. As for new Infected types, there’s one group called Shamblers; they’re large and heavy Infected covered in pustules. These pustules act as armor, and whenever a Shambler gets to Ellie, they’ll expel a corrosive spore cloud, so players will want to handle them from a distance.
Sadly, Shamblers were the only new Infected enemy discussed this time around, as Druckmann wants to let players experience the bigger and more boss-like variations on their own. The other two enemies consist of two survivor groups that are warring over Seattle: The Scars, and The Washington Liberation Front, or The WLF for short.
The WLF is made up of highly trained soldiers that will imprison or kill any “intruders” on sight. They started as a resistance to the military occupation of Seattle when the pandemic was just getting started, but eventually gained control over the city and now occupy it as their own. They are alsothe group that Ellie wants to take revenge on.
Unlike the Scars and Infected, The WLF is heavily armed with weaponry stolen from the military. On top of that, they havedogs that Ellie might have to killto avoid detection. She can also use her Listen Mode and other methods to evade them.
Finally, there are the Scars: a group of religious zealots that take their name from the self-inflicted wounds on their faces. Like The WLF, Scars are tribalistic and intensely territorial. But unlike The WLF, Scars are known for being stealthy, using the environment to their advantage, and wielding silent weapons like bows and arrows. Precisely why the two survivors groups are fighting remains unclear, but will be revealed onceThe Last of Us Part 2launches.
The Last of Us Part 2launches for the PlayStation 4 on June 27, 2025.
