Earlier this year, Bloober Team released one of the first next-gen only games inThe Medium, a classic-style survival-horror game inspired by classics likeSilent Hill. The Mediumearned mostly positive reviewsat the time of its release and was generally considered a strong addition to the Xbox Game Pass lineup. Now it seemsThe Mediumis making its way to the PlayStation 5, though fans will still have to wait a few months to play it.

The MediumPS5 release date is September 3, with the game set to be available in both digital and physical formats. There doesn’t seem to be any new content in the works for thePS5 version ofThe Medium, but it will reportedly have “full DualSense controller support.” The specific waysThe Mediumwill take advantage of the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller were not detailed in the announcement trailer.

For those unfamiliar with the game,The Mediumis developed by Bloober Team, a studio that focused almost exclusively on horror game projects. Bloober Team’s goal is to be like theBlumhouse of the video game industry, and so horror game fans can expect the studio to keep releasing new games in the same vein asThe Mediumand its other projects.

BesidesThe Medium, Bloober Team is perhaps best known for itsLayers of Fearseries, as well as the cyberpunk horror gameObserver. Bloober Team was also the studio behind theBlair Witchvideo game, which was mostly successful in its attempt to translate theBlair Witchfilm franchise to video game format.

As far asThe Mediumgoes, it differs from some of Bloober Team’s other games in key ways. The biggest difference is thatThe Mediumis a third-person game, whereas most Bloober Team titles are first-person. This shift in perspective, along withThe Medium’s fixed camera angles, goes a long way in replicating the feel of the old-school survival-horror games that inspired the game.

With Bloober Team releasingThe Mediumon more platforms, awareness of the game should grow, and that in turn should make it more likely that a sequel will be developed. The Mediumendingdoes leave some major loose ends, and there’s no doubt many fans of the original game who would like to see what happens next. Whether or notThe Mediumsequel is Bloober Team’s next project or if the studio is working on something completely different remains to be seen, but for now, PS5 owners can look forward to the game coming to their platform of choice.

The Mediumis out now for PC and Xbox Series X, with the PS5 version launching on September 3.
