[UPDATE: Private Division has released a statement regarding the 4K enhancements and options on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.]
“The Outer Worlds is enhanced for both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. The Outer Worlds includes 4K textures and resolution on Xbox One X and PC, and upsamples to 4K from 1440p on PS4 Pro. The game looks great across all platforms and we’re excited for players to experience The Outer Worlds on October 25th.”
Obsidian Entertainment is looking to create aFallout-style RPG withThe Outer Worlds, and so far, the game has garnered quite a bit of hype. However, those who plan on playingThe Outer Worldson PS4 Pro may want to know that the it will not have any PS4 Pro 4K enhancements, meaning those who want to experience the game in 4K on console will have to play the Xbox One X version.
Publisher Private Division recently revealed thatThe Outer Worldswill not have any PS4 Pro 4K enhancements, but stopped short of providing an explanation as to why. One might think that it has something to do with Obsidian Entertainment now being owned by Microsoft, but that seems unlikely. After all, Private Division is still handling the publishing ofThe Outer Worlds, not Microsoft.

Even so,The Outer Worldsis likely to become a Microsoft-exclusive franchisewith future sequels, as that’s been hinted at in the past.The Outer Worldsis also going to be on Xbox Game Pass at launch, which may also fuel conspiracy theories that the PS4 Pro version is being given the short end of the stick due to Obsidian’s new ties to Microsoft.
WhileThe Outer Worldswon’t have any PS4 Pro 4K enhancements, it should still be a complete experience on the platform. No platform-exclusive content forThe Outer Worldshas been announced to date, and with it being so close to the game’s launch, we don’t expect any to be revealed.
That means PS4 players will still get to enjoy all of the same game modes thatThe Outer Worldsplayers on Xbox One will have access to, including thepermadeath Supernova difficulty. Gameplay-wise, it shouldn’t matter too much which version ofThe Outer Worldsplayers decide to buy, though the Switch version of the game will have the added benefit of portability.
While PS4 Pro owners may be disappointed to learn thatThe Outer Worldswon’t have PS4 Pro enhancements, there is still quite a bit of excitement for the game. Whether or not it lives up to the hype remains to be seen, but we’ll find out next week.
The Outer Worldslaunches on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version also in development.
