WhileSonic the HedgehogandDetective Pikachumay be getting the most credit for breaking the video game movie curse, 2018’sTomb Raiderfilm also deserves a nod. The movie didn’t exactly hit it out of the park with critics, but it was generally well-received by fans and was successful enough at the box office to warrant a sequel, which will be released in March of 2021.
Details on theTomb Raidersequel film have been scarce since its announcement, but a new report sheds more light on what fans of the franchise can expect. Whereas the 2018Tomb Raiderfilm featured elements of theTomb Raidervideo game reboot andRise of the Tomb Raider, apparently this sequel will mix elements ofRise of the Tomb Raiderand the more recentShadow of the Tomb Raider.

More specific plot details are unavailable at the time of this writing. However, we can make some educated guesses on theTomb Raidermovie sequel plot based on what happened in the first film. The mid-credits scene of the 2018Tomb Raidermovie, meanwhile, saw Lara purchase her iconic dual pistols from the video games. She was also wearing an outfit that looked very similar to her attire from some of the older games in the series. Considering this, it seems safe to assume that the dual pistols will be featured in theTomb Raidermovie sequel.
With the movie set to go into production in April, fans should be able to expect more concrete plot details sooner rather than later. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how closely it sticks to the video game source material.
