On July 1, Netflix released the first six episodes of the streamer’s 12-part reboot ofUnsolved Mysteries. While an official release date for the second half of the series has yet to be announced, fans are speculating thatUnsolved Mysteriescould return in October 2020.
Created by John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer,Unsolved Mysteriesbegan as a series of seven television specials before becoming a full series with the late Robert Stack as the host in October 1988. Documenting cold cases and paranormal events,Unsolved Mysteriesaired on NBC for nine seasons before moving to CBS in 1997, where it was canceled after an abbreviated run. While Lifetime ordered new episodes before the network decided to stop producing the series following Robert Stack’s prostate cancer diagnosis and Spike aired a repackaged version of the show, a proper return would only arrive whenStranger Thingsexecutive producer Shawn Levy’s revival ofUnsolved Mysterieswith Cosgrove-Meurer Productions wasofficially announced nearly a decade later in 2019.

With the first six episodes of Netflix’sUnsolved Mysteriesnow available, fans suspect the series could return in October 2020 based on the streamer’s history of releasing the second half of other shows three months apart. As noted by Radio Times, the first part ofBojack Horseman’s final season was released in October 2019 before the last run of episodes debuted in January 2020.
Of course, Netflix has not always spread out the release of its content over three months, with the tenth season ofArrested Development seeing a 10-month breaking between its two parts. However, RadioTimes noted that Netflix may opt to release the second part ofUnsolved Mysteriesbefore the end of the year due to a potential shortage of content caused by the productionshutdowns that occurred in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
Fans are likely hoping forUnsolved Mysteriesto return sooner rather than later, especially considering the Halloween season would be the perfect time to resume watching what many consider be a scary series. In fact, interest in the first run of episodes was so high that emails containing information regarding the death of Alonzo Brooks resulted inthe case being reopened by the FBI.
Of course, only time will tell when it comes to the notoriously secretive Netflix. After all, the streamer only recentlyunveiled its 10 most popular films, a surprise considering the company has been secretive when it comes to viewership numbers.
