May 4 is one of the biggest days of the year forStar Warsfans. For the past few years, fans have had the fortune of big announcements or events to commemorate “Star WarsDay,” and anticipation is high for what this year’s celebration has in store. Fans have been patiently awaiting news on a handful of differentStar Warsprojects lately, many of them being new video game releases. There has been some relief in the recent announcement thatStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderwill be getting a big next-gen upgrade, but the same cannot be said for the long-awaitedLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagahas proven to be the white whale of theStar Warsfanbase for some time now. The game has suffered a number of delays, the most recent of which delayed the game indefinitely. Nevertheless, the fanfare of May the 4 brings with it some optimism, and there’s a chance that fans could finally get some good news regarding the state of the game. Considering how tumultuous the development ofThe Skywalker Sagahas been, there likely won’t be anything shocking like a surprise release, but any news that isn’t a delay would be good news at this point.

New Release Date/Release Window

One of the most discouraging things about recentLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saganews is the fact that game has been delayed indefinitely, without any kind of future release date. Even before the most recent delay was announced, the game was sitting at a spring 2021 release window for a very long time. This led many to believe that the game would receive some kind of delay as spring drew closer, but few expected that the delay would result in no projected release date at all. Now that Traveller’s Tales has had some time to assess whereThe Skywalker Sagais after this delay, hopefully May 4 will bring a new release date.

Now, if any kind of release date were to be revealed on May 4, it could go one of two ways. If Traveller’s Tales feels like it’s gotten the game to a state where a release could certainly happen, it could use the day to finally give players a definitive release date to look forward to. On the other hand however, if the developer simply isn’t ready for that kind of commitment, it could continue to play it safe and just give a general release window. This kind of approach might draw the ire of some fans that feel they’re just being pulled along, but it could excite otherLEGO Star Warsfans that just want to know when to expect the game.

A New Trailer

On top of the release date troubles,LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagahas not exactly had a wide offering of trailers for fans to look through since the game was first announced. The game has had a total of three distinctive trailersever since it was first revealed at E3 2019, the last of which was shown off close to a year ago. It makes sense that ifThe Skywalker Sagawas having trouble with development, then it wouldn’t want to start any trailer-led marketing campaigns, but at this point not much else is known about the game other than what’s been shown in brief clips or talked about in interviews.

Considering what has already been shown off in previous trailers, it would likely be fair to say that the game is in a state where Traveller’s Tales can at least put out another for May 4. If it was ready for a trailer late last summer, then it would make sense for it to be even more prepared for one now. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a gameplay deep dive, but something that plays onthe history of the franchisewould make for a pretty great treat forStar WarsDay. Many fans have been itching for just some kind of new look at the game, so really anything that shows off something that hasn’t been seen before would be cause for celebration.

A General Update

Perhaps the biggest issue withThe Skywalker Sagahas been the general lack of information around the game. Aside from an absence of trailers or general promotional material, Traveller’s Tales' engagement with theLEGO Star Warscommunity has left much to be desired. Before the game was officially delayed, the only posts that the developer had made on its personal Twitter or theLEGO Star Warspage were from all the way back in August of last year.Development troubles are understandable considering the nature of the world lately, but it’s no wonder much of the fanbase’s morale has been so low with how little engagement there has been.

May 4 would giveTraveller’s Talesthe perfect opportunity to simply engage with fans again and provide some kind of update on where the game is right now. If the developer isn’t ready to drop any kind of release date, then just letting fans know how development is going could at least provide relief for some. IfThe Skywalker Saga’s delay was so serious that it prompted Traveller’s Tales to withhold a future release window, then this seems like the most likely scenario considering it’s only been a month since the announcement.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagalooks like it’s going to beone of the biggest celebrations of everythingStar Warsto ever be committed to a video game. There would be no better opportunity for Traveller’s Tales than to provide some kind of update on the game on May 4, but those looking forward toThe Skywalker Sagashould approach the day with some caution. It’s unclear just how severe the most recent delay of the game is, and if it’s severe enough it could mean that there will be no news on the game. There is still room for some optimism, but it’s entirely possible that fans might have to wait just a little bit longer for an update.
