Hollow Knightis a massively successful indie title. Its moody, stylized graphics, and its somber music instantly draw players in. The gameplay arguably raises the bar for the metroidvaniagenre as a whole. As a result of the original’s success, the sequel,Hollow Knight: Silksong, was announced in February 2019.
Hollow Knight: Silksongis one of the most highly anticipated games in development right now. A Brief History of Hollow Knight
Hollow Knightis a metroidvaniaset in a dark, gloomy underground, with an adorable art style. Its world is dense and filled with secrets to uncover, and the game’s excellent platforming tools make backtracking fun, as opposed to a chore. On top of this,Hollow Knighthas a deep combat system in which players can use melee and magic, and even customize their loadouts by equipping certain charms. The combat is also difficult, which, in conjunction with losing all obtained currency upon death, frequently draws comparisons to games likeDark Souls.
All of these factors resulted inHollow Knightbeing a smash hit — it is hard to believe that its developer, Team Cherry, consists of only three people. Due to the success of the base game,Hollow Knighthas multiple free DLC expansions. These include new areas to explore, filled with platforming challenges, on top of some of the hardest boss fights and gauntlets in the game. One final DLC was planned, in which players can replay the game as the fan favorite character, Hornet, but this idea fully transitioned intoHollow Knight: Silksong.

What is Known About Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hollow Knight: Silksongwas first revealed on Valentine’s Day of 2019, with a surprise announcement trailer. This trailer boasts many new enemies, bosses, varied locations with vibrant visuals, new towns — it is clear that the world ofSilksongis much larger in scope than the original game. The gameplay also is much faster and acrobatic now, all fitting ofHollow Knight: Silksong’sprotagonist Hornet. Any follow up to the critically acclaimedHollow Knightclearly has some big shoes to fill, but this initial trailer forSilksongassures fans that the game will do just that.
Well,Hollow Knight: Silksongwas revealed over three years ago, and the game is still a mystery. The game did have a great playable demo at the E3 gaming convention in 2019, to give at least some players a taste of the game, but there really has not been much news since.
As a result, die-hard fans of the game have analyzed any potential date that information could have been revealed, including the series' recent 5th anniversary. Rumors and fake leaks have been spread, but as of now, none have come to fruition. Team Cherry’s official website does explicitly state to keep the fact that they are only three people in mind, so it is easy to see how work on the seemingly massiveSilksongcan spread the team thin and direct focus solely into the game’s development.
It is hard to believe thatHollow Knight: Silksongwas announced over three years ago, and that the original is five years old. The series has become somewhat of a face for indie games in that time, which is all the more impressive considering it was developed by only three people.Team Cherry has been awfully quiet onSilksong’sdevelopment, but hopefully these years of hard work and focus are leading to major reveals about the game — ones which are hopefully coming sooner rather than later.
